This Time, Santa Needs Us

This Thursday, Sustainable Newton will present "24 Hours of Reality - Truth in Action" at the Covington branch of the Newton County Public Library.  Ours is a local event, presented by local climate activists, focused on climate change here in the southeast.  But, our discussion is part of a much larger conversation organized by the Climate Reality Project.  As of this week, over 1,350 presentations were scheduled, covering all 50 US states and over 70 countries, all taking place sometime between 6 pm ET Wednesday and 6 pm ET Thursday.

Sustainable Newton is proud to do our part.  We're also a bit apprehensive.  Thursday at 6 pm is also the annual Lighting of Downtown Covington event on the square.  It's unfortunate timing, but as they say, it is what it is.  This being a global  event tied to a fixed window of time, we had limited scheduling options.  And, when we realized the conflict a couple of weeks ago, it was impossible to shift to a different time on Thursday, with newspaper articles, event posts, and flyers already in circulation.
